Having Holidays midweek is awesome, and this year Christmas and New Year's landed on Thursday. This made not one but two lengthy four day weekends (for some, not all!). I was lucky enough to be chosen to DJ in San Francisco to celebrate Amy's big 3-0. A birthday and New Years means double the party!
The Party was held in the skylight room at Firehouse 8, an old historical firehouse that is now a popup and event space right in the middle of San Francisco. Amy and her girls Ariane and Carrie were there decorating the room with noisemakers, balloons, hats, and all sorts of shiny/glittery stuff :) Teresa was the Firehouse 8 contact for this event, she made sure I had all I needed for the evening, AND she was even there to help clean up at 2am afterwards.
The skylight room had ample space for Amy's guests to drink and socialize, but I found it was better to keep things compact as to differentiate my side of the room as the dance floor. Amy told me her friends knew how to get down when the music was right, and she was not kidding!
The best part of the night HAD to be when Amy got her dad on the dancefloor for an impromptu Hava Nagila dance. Jewish or not, everyone linked up and got down with the Hebrew!
As the time approached we got ready for the countdown. Since Amy's actual birthday is January 1st, we doubled up the celebration at midnight. Amy's friend Ariane set-up a surprise slideshow of friends and family near and far singing and wishing her a happy birthday. It moved Amy to tears, she was beyond touched.
New Year's events can be challenging since the night can stretch on and the party energy can fizzle out at times. This was NOT the case for these guys, it didn't matter if it was Biggie, Beyonce, Baauer, or Benny Benassi, they just KEPT DANCING! I loved it!
This was definitely the way I wanted to start off the New Year... a fun event with great people. A big thanks to Carrie and Ariane who kept things organized and beautiful, and thank you Amy for giving me the honor of DJing your 30th :)
Happy New Year!
